Cara Segger was raised in Victoria, in Cook Street Village and holds a BA and MA in urban geography. She is the Project Management Officer for UVic’s Communications and Marketing department, where she is responsible for multi-team projects including the rebuild of the university’s central website and the department’s ongoing digital transformation.
Cara has two decades of communications and engagement project experience across the public, non-profit, hospitality and urban revitalization sectors. She has championed digital communications and processes in all of these roles, and is experienced at running virtual teams. While in the role of Employee Engagement Programs Lead for the Government of Alberta, she worked closely with the PMO to manage rapid organizational change and fell in love with project management as a discipline. Upon her return to Victoria in 2016, she attended PMI-VI’s CEPS program and certified as a PMP.
Cara has been deeply involved in giving back to the Victoria community for decades. She has served on a variety of municipal and non-profit advisory boards, including the Heritage Advisory Board and the Victoria Arts Legacy Society board, she has been volunteer moderator for online civic discussions, she has volunteered with Streetlink, Umbrella Addictions and Mental Health Resources, and Pacifica Housing and raised funds for the Victoria Youth Empowerment Society. She has been volunteering as interim communications manager for PMI-VI since Fall 2019 and looks forward to serving her local chapter in an expanded role.
