"Together, We Can."

PMI Vancouver Island

Chartered in February 1996 with 46 founding members, the chapter was created to serve PMI members on Vancouver Island (and the Yukon territory), and the community of practitioners and users of project management services in those areas.

Today, PMI Vancouver Island is home to nearly 700 members across Vancouver Island & the Yukon, serving 5 generations in the modern workplace and giving back to the project community - both public & private sectors - through education, networking, mentorship, continuous learning, and so much more!

Our Chapter continues to grow and mark itself as a cornerstone of professionalism and innovation thanks to our incredible volunteer leadership and incredibly dedicated members - with expertise spanning public administration, IT, hospitality, entertainment, defense, construction, non-profit, and more - who support us through local and global change and embody the PMI Core Cultural Values: Make it Easy, Aim Higher, Be Welcoming, Embrace Curiosity, & Together We Can.

Throughout the year our volunteer Board & Directors work tirelessly to support our membership, advise future project leaders, provide mentorship and networking opportunities, develop events and our annual conference, and act as a voice for our chapter on the global stage.

We are fortunate to have been recognized by PMI Global as "Chapter of the Year" Finalists in both 2020 and 2021, and to be recognized in 2023 as the Chapter (among ~300 Volunteer-Led Chapters worldwide) to have the youngest President in PMI history

Our Chapter’s Volunteer Board is elected or re-elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) each year.

The Project Management Institute

The Project Management Institute was founded in 1969 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. PMI started with volunteers - who believed they needed to share the efficiency and need for advanced project planning and scheduling practices. So much so in fact, that they almost named the organization "The American Planning and Scheduling Society" (doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?).

Now, in the 2020's, PMI is the global authority and accreditation institution for project management, and delivers various programs and services to support over ~700,000 members and even more project leaders worldwide. Most recently, PMI has ventured towards becoming a leader in the area of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), supporting members through free education and develop PM:Infinity - an AI support tool for PMs.
